Played Gillette Ridge on May 26. This is a fantastic course, and it's always in great shape. However, unless you are prepared for a 5.5-to-6-hour round, you may want to reconsider. Pace of play is the slowest around. We waited almost 10 minutes on every tee box, and there were always 12-16 players on every hole. I would not be typing this except this was the second time this happened to me at Gillette. The situation would have been much worse except we saw two foursomes in front of us actually pick up and leave the course (the 4th hole and 8th hole, I believe). Even with eight fewer players in front of us, the round still took nearly 6 hours. Again, the course is a great test of golf, and if you are just taking up golf, be advised. If you are a weekend duffer looking for a challenge (like me), by all means, bring balls and a lot of patience, as this will be a very long, frustrating, unenjoyable round, with a lot of waiting on the tee in the fairway, everywhere.
